Reigate School of Art Film & TV students are taking the industry by storm! Two Level 3 Film & TV students have won film competitions over the past two months – both locally and nationally.
Harry Courtney (pictured on left with Rachel Bashford and tutor Jim Horn on right), currently in his first year of the Level 3 Film & TV course recently came out on top in the national BBC Three film competition “The Fear” with his short horror film “Paranoia”. The series showcased short horror films by amateurs to a cinema audience who then rated them according to how scary they were. The scariest three films as voted by the audience were then shown to the judge, Eduardo Sanchez (co-director of The Blair Witch Project) to choose the winner. The prize is an impressive £20,000 funding towards their next film project.
Harry co-directed the winning film with Matthew Traszko. Speaking on the BBC Three show after winning, Harry said:
“We were just two dudes with a camera and some spare time on the weekend, and we like to make people laugh or make people scream and...it worked!”
Harry’s success follows on from Rachel Bashford who won the Best UK Junior Short Film Award at the first Dorking Film Festival that took place in October 2015. Rachel’s short film “Hollow” portrays a teenage girl who descends into alcohol and drug abuse. Rachel is currently in the second year of the Level 3 Film & TV course and the award-winning film was part of her final major project at the end of her first year.
