Armistice Day 2019

Armistice Day 2019

Date: 11 November 2019

Students and staff came together this morning in recognition of Armistice Day 2019.

Caring Services students stood in formation around a commemorative plaque, which originally formed part of a memorial on the old East Surrey College site. The plaque commemorates residents of the Southern Provincial Police Orphanage, who lost their lives in World War One.

Public Services Level 3 students began the ceremony with a parade, led by Year 2 student Beth Main. The parade was followed by an introduction from Lee McCarthy, Programme Manager for Caring Services.

The Last Post signalled the two-minute silence, and red paper petals were scattered from the balcony by Supported Learning students. Students from each curriculum area laid a wreath by the plaque, as well as President of ESC Student Union, Amran Mohamed, followed by Jayne Dickinson, Chief Executive Officer (College Group) & Principal (ESC). During the wreath laying, attendees listened to a recital of In Flanders Field, before a command was issued for Public Services students to continue their parade out of the Winter Garden.

Thank you to all students, staff and visitors for their cooperation and respect during this event.
