HE Fair: Helping students with their next steps
18/11/2022
Date: 17 November 2022
As part of our ongoing engagement, our students have been connecting with Surrey Police through several activities including casual chats at the College and a round of table tennis earlier in the term. Through these activities, we are building on our positive relationships with the police, creating awareness and de-mystifying some stereotypes.
In addition to reporting crime, many young people want to be involved in preventative action too. Today we carried out searches that serve as a deterrent and provide an opportunity for the police to provide education as well.
The police also brought along their trainee puppy, helping students to gain an understanding of the role the dogs play in the force.
“It was nice speaking with the police I actually learned a little bit about the police dogs. The puppies’ names were Toby and Yaris and they are in training, so in a way they were at College to study too!” Fahdeen, Engineering Level 3 student.
This engagement goes both ways as it gives the police the opportunity to connect to many people as further education has a wide range of students.
Faye, a Surrey Police officer who also happened to be a previous student at East Surrey College took time to speak with our students and said “Today was another great opportunity to interact with our community. In addition to preventative operations, we can provide education and engage in meaningful dialogue.
Working closely with our community partners benefits us all so we look forward to and welcome our continued engagement with Surrey Police.
