Reigate School of Art Students were lucky enough to hear from contact lens specialists Garth Barnard and Teresa Cataldo from Cantor & Nissel, for a talk regarding the use of contact lenses in the creative industry!
The students from Level 1 Art & Design and Theatrical, Media & Special Effects Make-Up HND learnt about the different types of lenses used for film, including blockbusters such as James Bond and Guardians of the Galaxy and hit TV shows Peaky Blinders and Game of Thrones. The talk included information of crafting unique lens designs and health and safety behind fitting lenses for characters on set.

Alongside this, they discussed the media portrayal of contacts and how the opinions from news outlets can give incorrect representations of lenses by reporting on negative stories of improper use of lenses when used without specialist help.
After the talk, the students were then able to look at contacts that were brought in and analyse the range of designs. As well as this, they had the chance to look through a portfolio of imagery in which the lenses had been used and have further discussions with Garth and Teresa to get a more in depth idea of the uses in the industry.
Thank you to Cantor + Nissel for sharing valuable industry knowledge to the students who got to take away a lot from the experience!
