Staff members at ESC went out into the community to take part in various Corporate Volunteering activities, as part of the Commercial Upskilling programme.
The Construction department put their skills and knowledge to use at Active Prospects, a Reigate-based charity which supports people with physical and mental learning difficulties. The team put together a summer house, which will be used as a Sensory Room for young people. Lecturers and Technicians from Plumbing, Carpentry and Construction used a stack of timber to build up the walls, before putting up the roof trusses and forming the roof with fixed timber sheets. The roof was then felted, and doors and windows were fitted.
Sue Stockman, Director of Business Development at Active Prospects, commented:
“The summer house will provide much needed extra space for games and activities and the young people who were there today were very excited about it.”
Elsewhere in the local community, a team of staff from Finance, HR, Curriculum and the LRC carried out garden renovation work at the Gatton Park country estate. Their work involved cutting back weeds and clearing two green spaces. Despite the high temperatures, they were able to make a visible improvement in the two areas on which they worked.
Pictured above is the group at Gatton Park, and below are the Construction team and some of Active Prospects' young people, with their new summer house!
