Health & Social Care Level 2 and Level 3 students attended an insightful seminar hosted by Victor Muriithi, Health & Social Care lecturer.
The seminar was designed to give students an overview of what Information Governance (IG) in Health and Social Care is, drawing from real-life scenarios. Students were able to learn about the statutory measures put in place to enhance the confidentiality and data protection of those in hospitals, care homes, or other healthcare organisations.
Victor emphasised the importance of the module, commenting: “Having a basic understanding of these two topics can really give you an advantage when looking for work placements. It is an essential part of any business, especially in the health or social care setting.”
Throughout the seminar, students were split into groups to discuss material including Caldicott Principles and the Data Protection Legislation. Towards the end of the seminar, students took part in a quiz, in which they had to achieve a pass rate of 75% to achieve a certificate for this module.
Lohan, Health & Social Care Level 3 student added: “I've never attended a seminar before, so it was a new experience for me. I enjoyed the more practical elements and grouped discussions on how we can protect our data."
Another added: "It's great that we can achieve a certificate from attending this talk. It's helpful to know that what we're learning will help us when looking for a job."
