Dr Peacock OBE visits College

Dr Peacock OBE visits College

Date: 21 June 2018

Dr Ray Peacock OBE recently donated a rare Seraph kit car to ESC, after having built it with his son over 30 years ago, and leaving it unused. He was keen to see the progress on the car, so paid a visit to the College on Monday 18 June to meet with Principal & Chief Executive, Jayne Dickinson, and speak with the Motor Vehicle students. Dr Peacock was able to see how the students had learnt new skills in vehicle restoration whilst working on his donated car, in preparation for track day events.

As part of his trip, Dr Peacock spoke with Vehicle Technology Level 3 student Andrew Webber, who had been working on the car with three course-mates. This was a chance for Andrew to show Dr Peacock his progress, which included removal and rebuild of the engine, restoration and rebuild of the twin Dellorto carburettors and rewiring of the engine bay. They also discussed further plans for the car, such as restoration of the interior, fitting a new race seat and harness, and a full roll cage.

To conclude the visit, Dr Peacock presented Andrew with the Seraph Peacock award, in recognition of his outstanding work on the car. This was the first instance of Dr Peacock’s award being presented and celebrates the innovation and achievement of students at the College.
