Towards the end of February, our Engineering Level 2 students had a fun and informative talk with Paul Bunnage, Engineering and Maintenance Manager, and Sarah Ling, Visitor Centre Officer from Viridor Beddington ERF.

Students were excited to learn about Waste Management Apprenticeship schemes and recruitment opportunities at Viridor Beddington ERF. Paul gave students an insight into the typical working day at Viridor including the working hours, the role of an Apprentice and the progression routes available. Paul commented:
“There are roles available in waste management across the country. Once you have your foot in the door, there are great progression routes”.
Students were shown two videos about Viridor: The first video showed the daily operations including collecting house-hold material waste, moving it to the treatment area and turning the waste into electricity. The second was a tour of the Beddington Plant facilities, which gave students an idea of the size of site.
After the videos, sarah added:
“It’s a great time to get involved in Waste Management as it’s great for the environment. If you are interested, we’re looking for two Apprentices to start in September”.

Students interested in the Apprenticeship role, were able to book a tour to visit the Viridor site. Accompanied by their tutors, the students spent a morning touring the site, and were able to talk with a current Apprentice about their experiences. Following the trip, three students applied for the Apprenticeship, and we wish them the best of luck with their applications.
