Last week, six of our Level 2 Motorsport and Level 3 Motorsport students embarked to the iconic Silverstone circuit for a triple-header weekend as part of the Student Motorsport’s CityCar Cup challenge.
Participating in three races throughout the weekend, ESC staff and students alike worked hard to bring home a winning trophy. Things started strong for team ESC as they achieved an impressive P1 position in qualifying for the first race, meaning they would start the race in first position. However, it was the second race where driver Jack Wheeler won, driving a Citroen C1 car workshopped by our students.
The team celebrations were short-lived, however, as a gruelling post-race scrutineering took place to check over the car. This started at 5:45pm and didn’t finish until 11:52pm. Laurence Sait, Coordinator of the Motor Vehicle & Lead Motor Sports courses, said: “It was nice to see the students working so hard without complaint, all for the benefit of the team. I’m really proud of what we have achieved so far and want to keep this up.”
But the hard work doesn’t end there – ESC is set to race in the season finale at Brands Hatch in Kent on 19 and 20 October. As of writing, ESC is third in the 2024 standings for the Student Motorsport Challenge and hoping to gain some more points.
We wish them all the best of luck, and a massive well done to everyone involved!
