Virgin Atlantic Visits Our Students
08/11/2023
Date: 10 November 2023
This Morning, Students and Staff at East Surrey College and John Ruskin college all gathered at each site today to honour and remember the sacrifices of our heroes with our annual Remembrance Parade.
East Surrey College's proceedings began with Public Services Level 3 students led by Mark Palmer, parading into the Winter Garden where they joined student representatives from each department including the Level 1 & 2 Public Services students.
Lindsay Pamphilon, CEO of Orbital South Colleges, then led a welcoming address:
“We have assembled to honour those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the course of duty. In our busy lives, we take a moment of stillness to reflect on their courageous and selfless devotion”
“At East Surrey College, we particularly remember the former residents of the Southern Provincial Police Orphanage, which once stood on part of our site”
“We shall stand today, shoulder to shoulder, in 2 minutes of silence, remembering those who died.“
James Parsons, Student President, then read ‘The Exhortation’ before the Last Post was played out marking the start of the two-minute silence. Supported Learning department also scattered poppy petals from the first floor balcony.
Nominated students from each department then laid wreaths accompanied by the poem – 'In Flanders Fields' read by James.
We are grateful and thankful for all students, staff and visitors for their cooperation and respect during these events.
