Last week, Fennies Nurseries paid a visit to our Early Years and Childcare students to discuss the day-to-day life of working in a nursery.
The visit involved an interactive task that allowed students to share their ideas about what they believed a typical day working in childcare was like. Students put their artistic skills to the test and were each tasked with drawing something they believed would take place in a day at the nursery.
While many of the drawings highlighted the fundamental aspects of childcare, education advisor Ruth emphasised how there is more to early years care than meets the eye. She explained how ‘play is children’s work,’ and that early year's care is a crucial developmental stage for children. She went on to point out the importance of developing fine motor skills and providing sensory play; always being prepared to get messy in the process. In her forty-year career Ruth mentioned how no two days are the same which helps to create a fun and rewarding workplace.
Lauren Mitchell, a Talent Executive for Fennies Nurseries said “We wanted to share with the students how rewarding a career in childcare can be, to show them that working with children isn’t just about playing with them, but about helping them grow, learn, and develop in a way that can positively impact their future.”
“Childcare has its own unique set of skills and knowledge that are crucial for working with children, it’s important to gain hands-on experience and knowledge that directly relates to early childhood development, child protection, and creating learning environments that support children’s growth.”
Education talks such as these, are important to our student’s development, allowing them to see the real world scenarios which shape their education and ultimately, give them a stronger foundation when they do enter the world of work.
