The Hair and Make-up Level 3 End of Year Show

The Hair, Beauty, Make-up & Spa department at East Surrey College was delighted to host the Hair and Make-up Level 3 End of Year Show this week. The show celebrated and showcased the students’ hard work from two courses: Hairdressing Level 3 and Fashion and Media Make-up Level 3.

Students had six weeks to prepare for the show. This included: conducting research relating to the two themes, experimenting with different mediums to create a conveying look, and mock-up designs before the big day. Students from Hairdressing were tasked with creating two looks from the themes Elements and TV & Movies, whilst Fashion and Media Make-up students created looks based on Mythical Creatures and Drag.

We spoke with Elise, a Hairdressing Level 3 student, before the show to hear about her experience:

“The last six weeks have been pretty much full on but to see my drawings and ideas come to life, it’s a great feeling. I cannot wait to see the finished results!”

Elise took inspiration from Bridgeton, a Netflix series to create her TV & Movie look and explored trees and forestry for her Nature look in relation to the Elements theme.

Students also had the responsibility of creating designs for the tickets to the show and promoting the event to family and friends. The winning ticket design was chosen by a member of our Marketing Team. All proceeds from ticket sales will be donated in support of Ukraine.

Before the event, we also spoke with Fashion & Media Make-up Level 3 student Monica to hear about her experience:

“We’re given three hours per look, but the time flies by so quickly whilst you create your looks so it can be a little stressful. But I know the overall experience allows me to showcase my skillset and show people what I love to do.”

Monica took inspiration from Medusa for the Mythical Creatures theme and looked at the decade of the 1920s to create her Drag look, as she found the period fascinating.

Towards the end of the event, tutors Debbie and Chelsey chose their favourite looks from the show and the winners are announced below:
