An afternoon of celebration for our Higher Education Awards

On the 16 January 2025, our Higher Education students celebrated the completion of their studies with our annual awards which took place at East Surrey College.

Among those commemorating the end of their courses with Orbital South Colleges University Centre, were students from Education and Training, Construction, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, and Makeup, Special Effects and Hair for Media and Performance.

On arrival, refreshments were available for guests and their tutors while they caught up on their time since leaving the OSCUC. Opening remarks from Seidu Salifu, our lead for Higher Education, welcomed friends and family to the afternoon’s celebrations. Seidu highlighted how the celebrations were an “absolute honour” and that they were testament to the student's perseverance and the support of their families, friends, and educators.

Special recognitions were given to Stacey Ross (Makeup, Special Effects and Hair for Media and Performance) for her resilience and determination throughout her studies and Charis Smith-Halvorsen (Makeup, Special Effects and Hair for Media and Performance) who could not attend after securing her first postgraduate role on a filmset after completing her studies.

Vice principal Rebecca Taylor was in attendance, providing a keynote speech for the students honouring them for their remarkable achievements. After the event, Rebecca provided a word of recognition and well wishes for the higher education students:

“You’ve shown bravery, fortitude, resilience, and passion as you have worked your way through these higher qualifications. I’d like to encourage you to take some time, amongst your busy day to day lives and responsibilities, to recognise and appreciate that. More than the new knowledge and skills you have gained, your passion and openness to a lifelong learning journey will be the key to a fascinating and fulfilling life and career”
