Students on our Learning, Employability and Progression (LEAP) course were joined by Enterprise Advisor Fiona McNichol for a range of mock interview sessions!
Following roles in finance, retail and consultancy, Fiona joined Young Enterprise as an Enterprise Advisor, helping students to identify their employability skills, draft CVs and work on cover letters. She joined us on Friday 11 June, for 15-minute sessions with each of the students, conducting a mock interview for a Supported Internship Catering Role.
Fiona explained how:
“This is an ideal opportunity for the students to speak to a stranger and work on their first impressions. Eye contact, negotiation and conversation skills are so important in an interview”
The mock interviews make up their final assessment, and the students will be required to complete a self-evaluation following their interviews. This will encourage them to identify their own strengths and weaknesses and assess how well they performed.
Student Sophie said:
“It will be really helpful to know how to do a proper interview and this course has been amazing!”
The LEAP course is designed to support students’ transition into employment, and these role-playing sessions are vital in helping the students to experience real work scenarios.
Course tutor, Alam, commented:
“My LEAP students have come such an incredibly long way in developing their employability skills and I could not be more proud of them. I cannot wait to welcome a new cohort of LEAP students and develop their academic skills and employability potential.”
Well done to all LEAP students!
