Following their fantastic success at last year’s exciting Student Motorsport Challenge, our Motorsport team has once again returned to the track for the 2023 season!
The Challenge enables young people to fully immerse themselves in the world of motorsport by converting a donor car into a race car fit for the track and running their own team in the BRSCC Nankang Tyres CityCar Cup Championship. Within the Challenge, ESC is competing against other Colleges, semi-professionals, and professionals.

The 2023 race calendar consists of seven events. The ESC Team has attended two events and here are the results so far:
Snetterton Circuit: 8-9 April
Race 1 - 4th place
Race 2 - 3rd place but didn’t finish
Race 3 – 3rd place
Croft Circuit: 6-7 May
Race 1 – didn’t finish
Race 2 – 3rd place
Race 3 – 2nd place

George Keith, Coordinator - Motor Vehicle & Lead – Motorsports, commented:
“This season has kicked off really well for ESC. Our students have worked really hard on getting our new car, a Citroen C1, ‘race-ready’. Jack Wheeler is our new driver and Snetterton, the inaugural event, was his first time behind the wheel. He has already shown great skill in mastering the car and will inevitably continue to win trophies for us.”
Toby, a Motorsport level 3 student added:
It’s been a surreal experience so far, and for me going to the races has to be the best part! As a team, we’ve worked really well together to ensure Jack is ready before each race.”
This year, we’ve also decided to bring the racing to you. We now have a new Instagram page dedicated to our Motorsport department giving live updates and reports about the season. Click here to follow!
Keep up the good work, TEAM ESC – we can’t wait to watch you in the next event at Anglesey on 24-25 June.
