National Apprenticeship Week Day 1
08/02/2021
Date: 10 February 2021
It’s Day 2 of National Apprenticeship Week, we’ve loved learning about how an Apprenticeship combines the responsibility of a paid role with support and training from College.
Our Engineering students heard from Birgit Berry, Recruitment Manager, and Susannah Wood, Marketing Director at Solar Century, who gave an overview of the company and explained how Apprentices can help to build the future. The students then welcomed Jo Davis, Managing Director at Broanmain Plastics this morning, as she ran a great CV writing workshop, advising them on how to tailor their CV for specific jobs. Finally, our Health & Social Care and Childcare students were joined by Sunita Nahar, Director at Placing People Direct, who shared her learning journey with our students and spoke about the benefits of choosing an Apprenticeship!
Today’s Apprenticeship Story is from Michael, a former St Bede’s School pupil who initially joined us on IT Level 3. After completing his qualification, he wanted more practical experience and interviewed for an Apprenticeship within the College’s IT team! He’s been able to help students and staff with remote learning and won ‘Best Apprentice Newcomer’ at the December 2020 Staff Awards! He loves putting his knowledge to use outside of College, setting up new technology at home and taking part in a cybercrime competition set by the government. Whilst on the Apprenticeship, Michael has felt his confidence grow and is hoping to work after the Apprenticeship, before continuing studies at University! |
“On an Apprenticeship, you do learn a lot of new things – so much more than you would learn in a classroom.”
