National Apprenticeship Week Day 4
09/03/2019
Date: 07 March 2019
Our final visitor for National Apprenticeship week was Nicholas Davis, Employability & Skills Executive for the Royal Aeronautical Society in London.
He spoke in front of Aeronautical Engineering Level 3 and Electrical/Electronic Level 3 students, opening their eyes to the wide range of careers in aerospace and aviation, which range from design and commercial roles to journalism and education.
It was exciting to hear about the new pilot Apprenticeship that has been developed, and Nicholas shared the Society's commitment to Apprenticeships, commenting:
“There is a massive skills gap, and bringing in an enthusiastic workforce helps us to support our volunteers and the community. Young Apprentices can express their passion for the sector, and inspire a younger generation.”
The students were then tasked with reading four CVs in groups and had to pick out the one that they thought was best suited to a Graduate Aerospace Engineering role. This activity helped them to pick out the strengths in a job application, and identify good CV-writing skills.
Throughout National Apprenticeship Week 2019, we have also been celebrating and talking about Apprenticeships outside of College! Kam Dehal, Vice Principal - Business Development (College Group), took part in radio interviews with Croydon FM and Meridian FM, highlighting the benefits of the pathway, and how anyone can go about applying for an Apprenticeship.
Our Employer Services team also took part in a City of London Corporation Apprenticeship Show on Monday and Friday, and have been out and about in local schools, showing the younger generation how they can fire up a career with an Apprenticeship.
