Students studying Access to Nursing Level 3 and Skills for Working in Health & Social Care Level 2 had the chance to visit the School of Nursing at Kingston University, where they were able to learn about the interview process, and the practical skills required.
Staff from Kingston University gave an overview of the MMI (Multiple Mini Interviews) process, which helps to prepare the students for applying to university.
They then led a practical session involving a convincing dummy, as the students were lead through the process of assessment, medication to administer, calling the ambulance and reassuring the casualty. The students then had a chance to practice their CPR skills, practising compression and mouth-to-mouth.
The students had a great time and were able to pick up skills to help them on their course and in future employment.
Here’s what some of them had to say about their day:
“The whole day was enjoyable and educational. The excellent tutors got everyone involved and in the process taught us practical skills and showed us collectively what will be expected from us at this level of education.”
Dante, Skills for Working in Health & Social Care Level 2
"I think I most enjoyed talking to the girls that already go there actually. I found asking them questions really helpful, and the MMI practice"
Jordan, Access to Nursing Level 3
“I liked being able to talk to the students that already go to university, it gave me the chance to ask them first-hand what it is like. It has put some of my worries aside and given me more drive to succeed in the course I am doing now.”
Gemma, Skills for Working in Health & Social Care Level 2
"I like the information/practice on the MMIs. Also being there when the students are in classes and having a feel for the place. [It] was very different to the open day."
Sarah, Access to Nursing Level 3
