The special commemorative scroll, currently being created by Reigate School of Art’s Heraldic Art, Calligraphy and Illumination students to mark the coronation of King Charles III, is nearing completion and looking wonderful!
In the spring, representatives from Reigate and Banstead Borough Council visited to discuss the specifications and design of the scroll which will be presented to the King on behalf of the Council.
Sam Paris, the Mayor’s Office Manager, popped in again recently to discuss the final touches. She brought with her the official seal which will be added along with the Borough crest and signatures of officials.

As the scroll is made from fine vellum, signatories will practice first on a spare cut-off so they get used to the texture and can perfect their signatures for the final product.
After examining the scroll, Sam commented:
“The progress has been great since my last visit, and I’m really impressed by both the quality of the work and design”.

Reigate and Borough Council will take receipt of the completed scroll in July, and a framed copy of it will be produced to hang in the Town Hall before it is delivered to the King during the summer.
Leader of the project, Lecturer Gerald Mynott FSSI, and his students will be invited to a special thank you celebration held at the Town Hall this Autumn.
