Supporting Mental Health Week at ESC

Date: 13 May 2024

It is Mental Health Awareness Week; this year's theme is all about movement and moving more for mental health.

When life’s busy, it can be tricky finding time for wellbeing-boosting activities.  But finding moments for movement might be easier than you think. Why not use the time you spend waiting to move more? When you’re waiting for the kettle to boil; for your kids to come out of school; or for a bus to arrive. These moments will add up.

At East Surrey College we are supporting our staff and students with some fantastic mindfulness activities and talks in different areas. Here is what we a running on Campus this year:

14 May – LSK Cake Sale, this will be in the Winter Garden from 10 am – 1 pm. Staff and students will be able to vote which local mental health charity they would like the funds to go to.

15 May – Fight or Flight will be visiting ESC and hosting a stall in the Winter Garden from 11:30am to 1:30 pm.

15 May – Basketball shoot-out charity fundraiser

16 May – Tea and Talk with CYP Haven in the Teaching Kitchen from 1 – 1:45 pm

17 May – Richmond Fellowship, CNWL NHS Sexual Health team and Off the Record will be having stands in the Winter Garden from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm.

We will also be running some activities within our new VR headsets for the students, as an interactive session throughout the week.

We want our students to join in and encourage them to find some time to move in whatever way they can this week.

Mental Health Week is also a time to speak and check in with your friends and family. We all face mental health challenges, and just a simple "How are you?" may be all that is needed.
