Continuing our ongoing community engagement programme with Surrey Police, officers from the Reigate and Banstead Safer Neighbourhood Team visited today as part of a county-wide campaign to raise awareness about knife crime.
The event, which included precautionary measures such as bag searches and a metal detector, gave students and staff a real insight into some of the steps being taken to tackle the issue.
College Principal and CEO Lindsay Pamphilon said: “We are delighted to be building on our partnership with Surrey Police to increase understanding around this issue and provide a secure and positive environment for all.”
Sergeant Phil Murgatroyd added: “Our pro-active knife crime awareness operations really help to educate young people on the consequences of carrying weapons.”
Recent engagement events with the Police have included talks, rounds of table tennis and a County Lines Awareness event where students attended workshops and met Hector the trainee ‘sniffer’ puppy.
Through these activities, the College is developing positive relationships with the Police, creating awareness and de-mystifying stereotypes.
