Access to Social Work Level 3 - Matthew
Matthew joined East Surrey College from Boston College in Lincolnshire, where he studied Health & Social Care.
Throughout his course, his part-time work as a care assistant in a residential dementia facility helped him to realise that "he wanted to be a social worker and became passionate about the career.” After hearing good things about ESC, he enrolled, knowing that "an Access course would be the best stepping stone to a uni course and career”
Nearly halfway into the course, and Matthew is really enjoying it and shared:
“It’s completely social work-orientated, we study care legislation and key practices for the sector. With a small group, support is always there when you need it. If you’ve got any problems, the HoD and Client Services are always available.”
As he is in College 3 days a week, Matthew is able to carry out part-time work in an assisted living facility, which he says "coincides with the course really well!"
Matthew is now looking to his next steps and has applied to study Social Work at many top UK universities. He holds conditional offers and is “really looking forward to the placement opportunities as part of the course - I always like a challenge!”
