Applied Science Level 3 - Faith
Former School: The Warwick School
What led you to choosing this course?
I originally heard about the Applied Science course through a friend. I read the information on the ESC website and had a reignition of my passion for science.
I chose Applied Science because it was a way to answer all the questions I had about the world. I started with the Level 2 Applied Science course and worked towards obtaining my Maths GCSE. Due to the amazing teaching and content I decided to continue further and study Level 3 Applied Science.
Why did you decide to study at ESC?
This college appealed to me because I prefer completing coursework over exams and wanted to study a BTEC.
Also, the location is incredibly convenient and close to where I live. I like the fact that there are lots of bus routes available right outside the college, and the train station is only a 15-minute walk away.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
The course content provided a wide range of knowledge, and I really enjoyed this aspect of learning. The course allows me to meet some amazing individuals that I would not have met otherwise. I have created some of the best moments of my life whilst at ESC!
Overall, how did you find the teaching/support?
The teaching provided for this course is amazing. I always know if I’m having a difficult time that I can talk to my tutor or lecturers and that they will try their best to support me, especially during times of stress when encountering challenges. Teachers tailor our learning to fit everybody's individual learning styles.
Did you complete any work experience during this course? How did you find it and what takeaways did you have from it?
I did a placement at East Surrey Hospital in the Pharmacy. This opportunity was presented to me by a lecturer as they know how difficult it can be trying to find work placement in scientific industries. This placement allowed me to experience a busy hospital and helped me decide what I want to pursue after college.
Did you take part in any events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit? If so, what and tell us more!
The college has provided a lot of opportunities, like visiting The New Scientist Live Expedition in London, the university fair in Brighton’s Amex Stadium, and listening to key talks related to our course. All the trips and events showed insight into the scientific fields and taught us what qualifications are needed to pursue a career in science.
Outside of our studies we also had an induction trip to Tulley’s Farm to make an escape room, which was a good way to start forming friendships.
What are your future plans once you’ve finished your course?
I plan to continue my studies at university. Right now, I haven’t decided which university I want to go to, but I am looking to pursue a degree in forensic science/investigation with the aim of becoming a crime scene investigator.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student? If so, why?
I would recommend ESC to future science students due to the high level of teaching and variety of topics taught on the course. They provide the opportunity to gain insight into many different scientific careers and provide the base understanding of science needed to pursue these careers to a higher degree.
I also feel that college has allowed me to meet like-minded people and aid me in my journey as I have matured as a person.
