Art & Design Level 3 Extended Diploma - Jess
Former School(s): The Ashcombe School
What led you to choosing this course?
It seemed like the perfect choice as it meant I could focus solely on art and developing the necessary skills for the art industry. By studying at ESC, I could focus on one subject of interest rather than having to study 3-4 A Levels.
What did you enjoy most about your course?
I enjoyed the independence and freedom to express my ideas. There was a lot of artistic equipment and materials in the 3D/print workshops and classrooms, I felt like I could do anything! I have learnt so much.
Overall, how did you find the teaching/support?
My lecturers were very supportive, enthusiastic, and experienced which led to a supportive working environment. I always felt seen and respected, especially during 1:1 tutorials.
Did you complete any work experience during this course?
My first work experience was with Curtis Packaging – a company that designs and produces premium-quality packaging that is innovative and sustainable. This experience allowed me to discover the types of job opportunities available to artists.
Did you take part in any events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit?
I participated in the Surrey Further Education logo competition, where students were taught how to use Adobe Illustrator in order to produce professional logo designs to potentially be used for official documents from Surrey FE.
I also went on trips to places such as the British Museum, V&A Museum, Warner Bros. Studio Tour, London ExCel and Kew Gardens.
What are your future plans now you’ve finished your course?
I have decided to stay another year! I have now enrolled onto the Level 4 Art & Design Foundation Diploma course. I'm excited to gain more knowledge, practice, and experience from being at this college. Once I have completed this year-long course, I would like to progress onto university to grow more and make industry connections.
Would you recommend ESC to a future student. If so, why?
I would 100% recommend the college as the lecturer support, trip opportunities, industry practice, projects, and community has left me feeling a deep sense of satisfaction. It has reinforced my love for education!
