Beauty Therapy Level 3 - Chloe
Former School(s): de Stafford School
Chloe initially came to East Surrey College with an interest in studying Early Years. But after visiting the Salon facilities with a friend, she realised that Beauty Therapy was a route she would love to explore. She had always loved doing beauty treatments in her spare time and was excited to learn more in a professional setting.
Chloe says she loves that the course is technical and challenging which helps in improving her knowledge of a range of treatments. There are lots of opportunities to do practical treatments on other students in the class and she loves to take this work home to try on friends and family for extra practice.
"There is a range of machines, clients and treatments to learn about which keep it exciting and interesting."
She also says that the tutors are all supportive, which encourages all the students to work hard on both practical and theory-based work. Whilst working from home due to the government lockdown guidance, the tutors sent the students Dermalogica training and webinars which has been helpful to earn additional certificates and achievements and keep them motivated whilst being away from the College.
Chloe took the initiative to create her own salon at home after one of her tutors suggested she attended a beauty exhibition (Olympia Beauty), where she got her first gel and manicure nail kits to work on friends and family. Due to word of mouth, she began to expand and incorporated new treatments such as lash lifts, eyebrow waxes, massages and facials.
This, unfortunately, had to stop when the government lockdown guidance came into place, but Chloe overcame this challenge by selling her own personalised facial kits online. She began delivering them locally, but after selling out she began a postal service outside of her area. On this experience she said:
“I couldn’t believe it when the first kits sold out. We started with just local delivery and collection and now I send them to people all over. I had kits for different skin types so it was inclusive and it’s been nice seeing a range of people using them and getting feedback that they have enjoyed it”.
She added, “It has been rewarding doing this over lockdown. It feels nice to treat a range of people during a difficult time”.
After completing her course at the College, Chloe wants to continue to expand her own beauty business as she likes the idea of flexible working. She also said that one day she may even like to teach Beauty Courses to others.
