Business Level 3 and Supported Internship Level 1

Business Level 3 and Supported Internship Level 1 - Louis

Former School(s): de Stafford School

Louis joined ESC from De Stafford School and has achieved a Level 3 in Business, Level 1 in Supported Internship, and is currently in his first year of an Apprenticeship with Client Services at ESC.

Why did you decide to study at ESC?

There is a great support system at East Surrey College, the staff are very friendly and there is always a positive environment. I also had a number of friends apply and attend with me for the Business course.

What led you to choosing your courses?

For me, I really enjoyed doing Business in secondary school, as I really like maths and working with numbers and formulas. After completeing the Business Level 3 course, I was recommended by career advisor to apply for the Level 1 Supported Internship course.

Why did you choose to do a Supported Internship at ESC? And what skills did you learn from this course?

The Supported Internship was really good experience, I worked in the kitchen at East Surrey, and it was a fantastic experience training to work with a professional team.

As part of the internship a learnt a lot from the team, about how to be professional within a role, as this was my first job. I also learned a lot about time management, organisation and I was able to boost my confidence and communications skills whilst in my placement. Which has really helped me in my current apprenticeship.

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship?

After completing the internship, I spoke to my career's advisor at East Surrey College, and they presented me with the opportunity to take part in an Apprenticeship. This to me was a great opportunity to learn more whilst earning.

What does your apprenticeship involve? What are you enjoying the most about your apprenticeship so far?

Working with Client Services has a big focus on customer service and supporting students and staff; and I have been enjoying it so far. I like talking to students and helping them out. I also really enjoy being part of the interviews and being able to interact with people.

How do you find the world of work – what skills have you needed that have you surprised you?

At first it was a jump as I had to improve my IT Skills a lot from when I’ve started until now. But I am beginning to settle in now.

What are your future plans?

I think after my apprenticeship concludes in 2025, I would like to work in Admin if I am not able to stay with Client Services at ESC.

Would you recommend ESC to future students? If so, why?

Yes, I would recommend East Surrey College. It has a positive environment and the staff are very friendly and helpful. There is also a lot of accessibility options for everyone, no matter what support they need.

The Supported Internship is a fantastic opportunity and course if you want a work placement whilst you are learning.
