Business Level 3

Business Level 3 - Ben

Former School(s): The Priory Dorking

Ben developed a passion for Business in Year 9. He felt it was a subject he could succeed in and undertook a lot of background research into the subject in his own time. His father is CEO of a company, and through conversations with employees, Ben discovered that Business can open up many different pathways.

After hearing about ESC from the College's School Liaison team when they visited his school, Ben came to an Open Day where he was impressed by the facilities and environment as a whole.

Ben decided to do a BTEC rather than A Level as he thought it would provide more opportunities and that by focusing on a single subject he could delve deeper into the subject.

“If you’re looking to develop one specific area and gain lots of skills, BTEC's provide creative opportunities for people of all abilities to develop their strong points.”

Ben really enjoys the variety, interactivity and valuable life skills (eg. handling finances) his course offers:

“Each day is different as the topics we cover don’t have many similarities. We normally experience Business as a customer – it’s great to see the workings and thoughts behind the scenes”.

He finds the teaching support very good and particularly likes the balance his teachers strike between tutor and friend.

“The support from my tutors has helped keep me on track and succeed. They bring out the best in students without applying too much pressure”.

Outside of College, Ben works in Customer Service at Denbigh’s Wine Estate in Dorking. He feels this, combined with previous work experience at his father's firm, has given him a real-life application of the theory learned in College.

To students considering their post-16 options, Ben says:

“I’d definitely recommend ESC if you are open to a wide career path and expressing your ability in different ways.”

In the future, Ben may potentially explore an Apprenticeship route but is currently open to all options.
