Computing Level 3

Computing Level 3 - George

Former School(s): Royal Alexandra & Albert School

What brought you to ESC?

I wanted to pursue a career in ICT and computing, so I was suggested East Surrey College by the careers team at Royal Alexandera and Albert School. I started a course in BTEC Computing Level 3 before eventually starting an ICT Apprenticeship with the college. I chose ESC because staying close to home was a priority and the course was suited to my interests.

How did you find your apprenticeship? Where did you look, what did the application process involve?

Whilst I was a student, I started working over the summer as a Summer Administrator which I really enjoyed. So, when a position opened as an ICT Apprentice, the Digital Curriculum Manager at the time suggested I apply, and I did!

Why did you choose to do an apprenticeship? What appealed to you about this route, and what were the benefits?

Mostly, it was a chance to get work experience which was very important. Completing this Apprenticeship meant I was able to progress much quicker than if I had gone to university. Another big benefit was the lack of student loans and financial restraints which meant I could get straight into doing what I love.

What are the highlights of being an Apprentice at ESC?

The opportunity to learn whilst also progressing in my career and gaining experience. Also, there’s a real sense of community at ESC, so working with colleagues in your team is a bonus.

What would you say to someone who was thinking about doing an Apprenticeship or studying IT?

Apprenticeships at East Surrey College are an amazing opportunity to learn and progress in a supportive environment. For anyone thinking about studying IT at ESC, this is somewhere you can evolve your IT expertise!
