HNC Engineering Level 4 Apprenticeship - Charlie
Former School(s): Reigate College
After completing his A Levels, Charlie joined us at ESC, where he completed Engineering Levels 1 & 2, followed by an Engineering Level 3 Apprenticeship and his current course, the Engineering Level 4 Apprenticeship. ESC was Charlie's local College, but he also chose this route as he wanted a course that would allow him to enter a practical job and kickstart a career in engineering.
"I chose to do an apprenticeship as it would allow me to get on the job experience along with the theoretical learning which I will need to get in a career of Engineering."
Charlie is completing his Apprenticeship with Rolls-Royce Power Systems AG/MTU UK, where he started in 2018. Although initially intending to just complete the Level 3 qualification, Charlie is extending his Apprenticeship for a few more years to gain the full HNC.
"I am mainly enjoying the hands-on working experience which the job involves, along with the camaraderie with my work mates."
He and the other Apprentices were lucky enough to have the opportunity to travel to Germany for a company training event, where they received product-based training.
Whilst working 4 days a week, Charlie is able to understand the practical side of what is being taught theoretically, and as part of his assignments, he is able to write about jobs and tasks he has accomplished in the workplace.
"Other classes such as my engineering principles class has allowed me to understand the purpose of some of the things we do such as torquing bolts and fixings. My health and safety class has taught me what each of the signs mean and has made me and my colleagues safer in the workplace."
When asked about the teaching and support at College, Charlies explained how when teaching moved online "the tutor support was incredible." Looking back on his Level 3 course, Charlie shared how "the teachers know what they are teaching and are able to help with support in class."
Once he's completed his HNC Level 4 course, Charlie is hoping to progress within the company and further his career in Engineering!
