Sound & Music Production Level 3 - James

What led you to choosing this course? 

I have always been interested in music because of my dad, even learning electric guitar at home over lockdown. I also really enjoy performing so when I was in secondary school I made sure to join a lot of plays. Therefore I decided to study the Level 3 Sound & Music Performance & Production UAL Level 3 Extended Diploma course.

Why did you decide to study at ESC? 

I really liked the vibe of East Surrey College. I found that the building and facilities felt more welcoming and offered more freedom compared to other colleges. Also, I wanted to stay local to home, which was another key factor in my decision.

What did you enjoy most about your course? 

Performing is the easy answer. I love the practicality and independence of this course but also that the theory can hold my interest without being too difficult. I also loved being able to join a band and create music; we recorded 12 songs in just one week.

Overall, how did you find the teaching/support?

All the staff at East Surrey College are very patient and fair, particularly my tutors. Last year when I was struggling with the theory in my course, they helped me get through it and supported me.

Did you participate in any events/trips/competitions/exhibitions or had any speakers visit? If so, what and tell us more!

I took part in the ESC Summer Festival. It was really fun and most of all I enjoyed the rehearsing aspect, which helped the actual day feel even more rewarding after all our hard work.

What are your future plans once you’ve finished your course?  

I would love to do something in the music industry. Starting as a sound engineer would be great to help get my foot in the door. I hope to work my way to the main stage where I can get the chance to perform. 

Would you recommend ESC to a future student? If so, why?

I would recommend ESC to a future student who wants the opportunity to meet like-minded people. For me, studying here turned out well because I was able to meet great people and join a band and create music, something I enjoy.
