Supported Internship - Hannah
Former School(s): Woodfield School
A Supported Internship is a chance to build up confidence and gain independence, and was the path chosen by Hannah, who started the course in 2017.
Hannah began by working 2 days a week in the College shop, which allowed her to develop key retail skills in a familiar environment. Despite initially struggling with communication, Hannah was able to work with her Job Coach to focus on specific areas of development and break down tasks for ease of understanding. Her Job Coach praised Hannah, commenting:
“It has been a joy supporting Hannah. This opportunity allowed her abilities to shine through”
After 3 months, Hannah was then able to move onto work at Co-op in Redhill. This was a big step, but Hannah was quick to demonstrate her progress, and communicated directly with her Line Manager, showing a willingness to work independently and solve problems confidently. Hannah’s Job Coach was able to gradually withdraw support and encouraged Hannah to work alongside her colleagues and Line Manager. Co-op were keen to progress Hannah on the till and she started working as a paid employee whilst attending College one day a week.
