Operation East Surrey Hospital Delivers!
15/12/2022
Date: 15 December 2022
Students have been bringing the festive cheer to the College as we come to the end of the Autumn term.
A joyful, colourful and exuberant production of Cinderella was prepared and performed by ESOL Level 1 students to celebrate the end of the term and kick off the festive season in style.
For Tutor Ewa Wilcox, this is the fourth time she has produced a pantomime with students.
She commented, "Putting on a pantomime serves a whole host of purposes! From learning how Christmas is celebrated in the UK, to discussing opinions and ideas as a team and learning to read with dramatic expression, the preparation and actual event is a fantastic confidence booster for all participants. Everyone is encouraged to have a go and has permission to get it wrong – it’s the taking part that matters!”
Students performed to a packed, very appreciative audience who cheered, whooped, clapped, whistled, and even danced!
One of the students commented: "Ewa is an amazing teacher, and we have really good classmates."
Another added: "We always have fun and feel confident with each other."
Thank you for Ewa and all her students for providing such a festive treat!
Our Level 1 UAL Diploma in Art, Design & Media, Year 1 students put together a display of creative products in the Winter Garden. The project was called ‘Tis the season’ and the aim was to create designs for surface patterns to be used on stationary products. The students selected themes from Chinese New Year, Halloween and Christmas inspired. They were able to choose the stationary products and made items including notebooks, wrapping paper, greetings cards and bookmarks.
The money raised from the creative fair is going to Same Sky, who have held workshops at the college with Level 1 and 2 students, where they created lanterns and flags for work experience. Same Sky is the largest community arts charity in the Southeast. You can read about the workshops at the college here.
The creative fair was an opportunity for the students to sell work for the first time and they successfully raised £55 and had a valuable experience. Well done to the students on their wonderful creative work and for raising money for Same Sky.
