National Apprenticeship Week Day 4

On Day 4 of National Apprenticeship Week, we welcomed Thales, SES Water and Fennies, who came to speak with our students about the opportunities they offer!

Thales joined us in the morning, sharing with our Engineering students how an Apprenticeship is like a real job, and a career is always evolving. Kirsti Godson, Head of Apprenticeship Development spoke about the Apprenticeship routes in business, manufacturing and engineering, and it was a great opportunity to hear from current Apprentices Tom and Matilda!

Our next visitors were Katie Mason, a Business Apprentice, and Sharon Flores, Learning and Development Advisor from SES Water!

Speaking in front of Business students, Katie shared an insight into her day-to-day schedule as an Apprentice, commenting that: “being able to develop on my skills within the workplace proactively has helped me get to where I am.”

Day 4 ended with a talk and workshop from Kirsty, Gill, Kerri and Victoria from Fennies Nursery! Childcare students were set a task that involved creating the Eiffel Tower out of marshmallows and spaghetti (pictured above). This tested their teamwork and sustained shared thinking - vital skills in the childcare industry!

It was great to hear about the Apprenticeships on offer at Fennies, with Kirsty sharing:

"We have many Apprentices in our nurseries. We employ a 'home grown' way of thinking - many Apprentices that started with Fennies 4 years ago are now in senior roles in their nurseries. It is a great platform to start from."
